Bio


Mizan B. F. Bisri, Ph.D. (Mizan) is the founder and principal of CARI! He is striving to always make himself available and accountable as a trusted knowledge producer and broker, science communicator, emergency responder, and policy planner for resilience and sustainable development, with a focus on Indonesia, Southeast Asia, and Asia-Pacific.

 

As a researcher, Dr. Bisri has a research portfolio covering relevant topics on disaster risk management (DRM), climate change adaptation (CCA), and humanitarian actions with a specific concentration on Southeast Asia, science-policy and knowledge management, as well as inter-organizational network modeling (see ResearchMap, GoogleScholar and ResearchGate). As a professional, Dr. Bisri has more than 12 years of experience at both strategic and field levels of disaster risk management in Southeast Asia. Through the combination of his post-doctoral research and professional experiences, the idea of CARI! emerged.

 

Dr. Bisri is also currently teaching as an Assistant Professor at the Graduate School of International Cooperation Studies, Kobe University, Japan. He is also one of the co-leads of Youth and Young Professionals in Science, Engineering, Technology, and Innovation for Disaster Risk Reduction (U-INSPIRE) Indonesia 2021-2023.

 

Dr. Bisri previously worked at the United Nations University-Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability, the University of Tokyo, ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management (AHA Centre), Asia Pacific Institute of Research, and Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). He also served as a disaster risk management specialist (consultant) for the World Bank, ASEAN Secretariat, United Nations agencies, and other organizations. He also possessed professional certifications and enlisted in key rosters, including ASEAN Emergency Response and Assessment Team (ERAT), Indonesian Association of Planners (IAP), United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination team (UNDAC), Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR), and others. He has a Doctorate and an MA. in political science from Kobe University, Japan, as well as M.Sc. and B.Sc. in urban planning from ITB, Indonesia.

 

In his spare time, he loves to read books and watch Japanese dramas/movies, fiction or non-fiction, especially those with inspiring and life-changing meanings. He plays and watch football or futsal, when possible. Reach him out at mizan@caribencana.id and @mizanbisri.
