CARI!’s Principal, Dr. Mizan Bisri, attended the 6th Global Summit of the Global Alliance of Disaster Research Institutes (GADRI): Towards GADRI Objectives of Achieving a Sustainable Disaster-Resilient World at Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI), Kyoto University, Japan, on March 15-17, 2023.
Global Summit of the Global Alliance of Disaster Research Institutes (GADRI) is a conference that gathers members of GADRI and their partners to discuss, identify the processes, and opportunities for achieving the GADRI! objectives for a sustainable and resilient society against hazards and disasters.
During the plenary session and session II-E, Dr. Bisri spoke about the roles of youth and young professionals (YYPs) in data & knowledge sharing in disaster risk management, the examples, as well as the challenges and ideas related to them.
There are three roles of YYPs in data and knowledge sharing:
- Data & knowledge producers devote themselves to capturing natural and social phenomena essential for understanding the landscape of disaster risk.
- Knowledge brokers or "catalytic beings" provide novel science and services to ensure stakeholders can access the most relevant disaster-related data and knowledge to meet their needs and challenges.
- Knowledge-based synthesizers and implementers access and craft the available disaster-related data and knowledge by consolidating, combining, and providing meaning-making that could inspire or trigger societal changes.
